These are ingenious lights!
During the great Texas freeze of 2021 when ERCOT had all of us in the dark; our home didn't suffer that fate with these ingenious lights! They came right on and worked as normal as a regular bulb. You need to place these in signal light sockets. Nothing that has multiple light fixtures. A hallways or a lamp is perfect. When the power goes out they switch on if the light switch is already on. If it's not simply flick on the light switch and the lights come on as a normal light. Very handy!

not a standard light bulb
This is not an emergency light. More like a portable nightlight. Stays on when the switch is off. Does not function as a standard bulb. My standard bulbs turn off.

    Returned
I returned them. I did not realize you would have to take the bulb out of the lamp and hold it in your hand like a flashlight.

Resistance detection is a little "hit or miss".
This is a great idea for folks without generators or for rooms/areas that cannot go dark during an outage. Also great for senior citizens living alone who might have to resort to matches/candles - this will eliminate that; avoiding any fire hazards. Many known/unknown brands are already selling these bulbs online. I bet "Great Value" probably stuck their label on one of these Chinese OEMs. For an emergency back up bulb, $4.xx is a no-brainer. A stairway that stays lit in an outage is worth 1000x more in saving potential fall injuries than the price of 1 bulb. That being said, because this bulb relies on a specific range of resistance to turn on during an outage (it needs to be connected to a circuit with other unpowered appliances...etc to "detect" an outage), it can be a hit or miss on where you install the bulb due to different ways your light fixture is wired. If the bulb stays on after you turn off the wall switch, it means you need to install it at a different location. You just need to keep trying the different light fixtures. I read some reviews that some people are not having any luck installing these on their fans. It's because you have other bulbs "in parallel" in that same circuit that is AFTER the switch. Install it in a place where only a single bulb is lit when the switch is turned on. Such as a table lamp.

    Cool concept
It was under $5 which is what drew my attention. But the main features really blew me away. It's nice to know i won't have to go looking around for a flashlight if my light go out. And it works up to 90 minutes as a backup light

Lies! Does not auto-illuminate with loss of power
Lies ... It does not illuminate when power is lossed. You have to unscrew the bulb and then "touch" the bottom 2 metal surfaces and use it as a flashlight.

    Back to the drawing board
I bought this bulb to have light in case of a power outage which we seem to have way too frequently. The only problem with this bulb is that after you turn it off, it comes right back on under the battery power. I have to unscrew it from the lamp to turn it off. I haven't had a power outage at night since I placed the bulb in use so I can't say if it will come on or not, certainly hope so. Kept the box in case it doesn't. A little inconvenient to have to screw and unscrew the bulb every day.

    Saved us during nighttime storm
Lit up entire room during outage. So glad that I purchased these and they were put to the test when we had a severe storm come through and knocked out power for a couple hours during the night.

    Excellent in power outages
It's 4:40am, and our power has just gone out. However, with this bulb in the halls and lamps in each room, you'd never know it. We could find emergency candles, locate matches and batteries, and see where cell phones had been placed. We are the only house on our pitch black street with a glow in the windows. My legally blind mother is extremely grateful that I insisted on buying this.

    I'm buying more!
I put mine in my ceiling fan and it works perfect! If I pull the cord on the fan to turn off the light, it goes off and stays off. Even if I turn off the wall switch. But if I have the light on and turn the wall switch straight off, then it'll go into battery mode. It works perfect for me. Idk how it would work in a lamp or other light fixture, but in my fan where I have a cord to control the light, it works perfect! In my pics, the first pic with the light on is normal “On Mode.” The second one looking down at the bed is in “Battery Mode” and it gives off a great amount of light. Just a tiny bit dimmer than normal “On Mode”. The third is the when I pull the cord on the fan to turn off the light and stays off. Hope this helps!
